Wangfujing, though mainly a tourist attraction, is centrally located in the city with quick access to the Forbidden City and Tiananmen square. Accommodation is scarce, but those that do reside here enjoy luxury apartments. Shopping and restaurants are plentiful, with a wide variety of both Chinese cuisine as well as international haunts. Transportation to and from this area is made quite easy with subway Line 1, the oldest line in Beijing.
Apartments for expatriates are hard to find in this area. Though the accommodation found here (e.g. Lee Garden and Oriental Plaza Apartments) maintain a high standard of living, most choose other areas of Beijing simply because Wangfujing is full of tourists all year. Prices range from CNY 15,000 to CNY 60,000.
Shopping & Amenities
The Oriental Plaza, the main shopping mall is that area, sells both international and local labels. As well, the Wangfujing Shopping Street just outside offers every visitor a unique look at the marketing campaigns and celebrities currently popular. Explore the small alleyways in this area to find some great souvenirs.
Entertainment & Leisure
Located in the north of Wangfujing, the famous Wangfujing Night Snack Street offers its visitors tasty exotic treats from 9pm to 11pm. If scorpions and silk worms aren't your idea of a good meal, the stands also offer candied fruit and stir fry noodles.
There are not many schools located in the Wangfujing Area. However, it is only a short commute to the international schools of neighboring areas.
Passing straight through the heart of Wangfujing, subway Line 1 connects locals to the rest of the city quite easily. Traveling to CBD takes only 15 minutes.
Many international health care facilities are located in nearby neighborhoods, including International SOS in Sanlitun and Beijing United Family Hospital in CBD.
