Shunyi
Located 30km north-east of downtown, Shunyi is sometimes referred to as the expatriate suburb of Beijing. Many foreign families live in this area, thus creating a feeling of western suburbia in Beijing. The tree-lined streets, large villas, swimming pools, and garages are just a hop, skip, and a jump away from many top international schools and nurseries.
Accommodation
Shunyi is home to the gated communities. For example, Beijing Riviera is home to villas ranging from 226sqm to 451sqm, each equipped with European furniture, fitted kitchens, balconies, and a garden. A golf course, tennis courts, football field, pools, a gym and a spa are common for the clubhouses. Rents for villas begin from USD $4,000 and for apartments and town houses from USD $1,000.
Shopping & Amenities
Shunyi has its own stores and beauty parlors with more opening all the time. Pinnacle Plaza sells clothes, music, electrical goods and sports gear. In addition to international grocery stores, there is a popular organic restaurant called The Orchard.
Entertainment & Leisure
Shunyi not only hosts many bagel shops, cafes, and pizza parlors, but the area also has some of the city's best sports facilities. In addition, there are golf clubs, riding stables, a skate park and fishing lakes. Dance, yoga, fitness and kung fu classes are offered at many schools.
Education
Most of the city’s international schools are here, including Dulwich College, Eton International, The British School of Beijing, The Swedish School of Beijing, Western Academy of Beijing, The International School of Beijing and The International Montessori School of Beijing.
Transport
Most residents own their own cars (and usually drivers too), so the 30 minute drive to town along the Airport Expressway is made with relative ease. There is no subway and taxis are rare. Bus 915 runs to the city center, but takes over an hour and stops after 20:00.
Health Care
Beijing United Hospital Clinic in the Pinnacle Plaza is a surgery and clinic linked to the Beijing United Hospital in Lido. There are also several vets and kennels.
