Long-term visas issued for China, US citizens

China and the US will grant each other’s citizens multiple-entry business and tourist visas with a maximum validity of ten years* Chinese citizens to be issued a ten-year visa.

This new agreement was announced this week during the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit: US will issue visas to Chinese frequently flying to US for business or family purposes, while Beijing will issue similar visas to Americans looking to make repeated trips to China.

The rules will mostly apply to frequent travelers as it should help to boost economic relations with Beijing. The US also aimed at facilitating the visas for Chinese tourists … and their wallets.

But will those rules attract more US talents in China? According to an annual survey by the American Chamber of Commerce in Beijing published in March 2014, nearly 48 percent of its members said concerns over air quality: senior executives are leaving China. Most of US citizens, as many other expatriates, don’t see Beijing / China, as a place to live and work for long term. If there are solutions to filtrate the air in their apartments, people are aware they still breath small particles every time they are outside or in non-equipped buildings. They may consider staying a few years, but not long term!
